Once again, the holidays seemed to have flown by and just like that we are almost a month after Christmas. There is so much anticipation and then it's just over. I made it a goal this year to slow down, enjoy the holidays as much as possible and not just "get through them". We had such a great time celebrating with friends and family. So I wanted to share with you one of my favorite days from the holiday season.
This year I was honored to be asked to come photograph Santa Day at the Children's Hospital of Illinois. I can not say enough about this day! For the 19th year, Santa's Hospital Helpers visited and delivered present to the kids. I had no idea what a production this was! From the generosity of the central Illinois community, to Santa and his team, to the group at the Children's Hospital - this is no small production. All of these people work so hard to make sure these kids and their families have a Christmas at the hospital.
After visiting the 1st room, and quietly sobbing in the corner while taking pictures - I thought, "I am not the person for this job". Once we left the room, I walked out with Santa by my side, tears in his eyes, I shared with him my doubts. He assured me that if I am crying at the first room, then I was most certainly the person for the job. It was a long day, visiting so many babies, children, families. I wish I could show you a pictures of every one of them. So many excited, smiling children. The work everyone puts in was so inspiring. They had presents for the patients, they had presents for their siblings, if someone had requested a specific present - everyone went searching for it. It was an amazing day, witnessing amazing people, and it was all thanks to the man who started it - "Santa". Bill, thank you so much for including me in your day. The blessings you bestowed on all of those people will never be forgotten. It's an amazing legacy. There were lots of smiles, laughter and tears and its a day I will never forget.
